Hunger Fighters is a triple bottom line hunger fighting portal committed to fighting hunger of the whole person in earth-friendly ways. Hunger Fighters is a unique online portal that makes it easy for people to fight hunger in less than 30 seconds a day. The Hunger Fighters site has three main functions. First, with a quick click on hunger-fighting buttons you are able to donate food to the world's hungry. This food has been paid for by sponsors. Second, links provide access to partners, affiliates, companies, nonprofits and other resource providers who believe in helping fight the hunger battle with profits, people, and the planet in mind. This is the triple bottom line in action. The "hunger" battle includes more than food issues. Too little food or suboptimal nutrition causes a domino-effect of issues and challenges that can affect the whole human. Third, the Hunger Fighters site offers an online egrocer locator to help you find grocers who deliver in your geographic area. More.. 2. What does "triple bottom line" mean? It is a term coined by John Elkington in 1997 (Cannibals with Forks), which refers to the three prongs of financial, social, and environmental accountability. We champion partners, affiliates, companies, nonprofits, and other resource providers who are helping fight the hunger battle with profits, people, and the planet in mind. These are the triple bottom line concerns of for-profit and not-for-profit leaders. These organizations are concerned about not only producing a product or service that is of value to society, but doing it in such a way as to make a profit. They are also concerned about the process and outcomes of people inside the organization, the community and all stakeholders. Finally, they do it in a way that will make the environment better off, replenishing resources instead of depleting them. This is sometimes referred to as the profit, people, and planet model. More... 3. How does Hunger Fighters differ from any other click-to-donate site? First, most other sites allow only one click a day per person and on one button only for hunger. Hunger Fighters offers other click to fight hunger opportunities on its Home Page. Second, while most support a variety of charities, Hunger Fighters has a specific food fighting focus. Third, no other click-to-donate site includes the triple bottom line as the major focus for helping to cure hunger. Fourth, no other site has a current egrocer locator. Fifth, no other click-to-donate site encourages you to exercise each day--a critical element in making sure we get at the double-edge sword of obesity and hunger. Six, unlike other sites, we are a one-stop hunger fighting portal fighting hunger of the whole person in earth-friendly ways. Finally, we are a virtual organization. 4. What is a virtual organization? A virtual organization is an organization operating as if it had bricks, mortar, and other standard fixed costs. It is committed to synergistic utilization of already existing fixed assets and fixed costs to build highly efficient managed growth based on building from revenue generation rather than debt. This translates into subcontracting services and having associates, advisors, and volunteers as team members. Hunger Fighters has no employees (not that we wouldn't like to). We are building a profitable, self-sustaining operation to help Fight Hunger in earth-friendly ways. We are modeling what we are proposing. As we grow, the virtual organization will become a blend with increasing fixed assets and full-time team members. 5. How can I get involved with Hunger Fighters? Email info@HungerFighters.com. We are looking for virtual partners, associates, affiliates, and volunteers as part of Phase 1. Phase 2 of Hunger Fighters will call for movement into paid staffing of full-time opportunities. 6. Are there volunteer opportunities with Hunger Fighters? Definitely. Volunteers are what we need most right now to help in the friend to friend guerilla marketing model. Email us to explore the opportunities at info@HungerFighters.com. 7. What happens when I click to donate a cup of food? When you click on our site's hunger button, our system adds your donation to the day's total count. The site is pledging to donate up to one cup of food per click a day based on number of sponsor. As we secure Sponsors, the amount of food per click may be able to be increased depending upon the number of sponsors. (Signup to be a Sponsor :-), get your company or organization to be a sponsor, spread the word and keep the numbers of members increasing which will increase the appeal to sponsors). 8. Why should I register? Do I have to register in order to click to donate food? There are several benefits to registering, but you do not have to register to click to donate food. Benefits of Membership include:
To register, click here. Even if you do not want to become a member at this time, please feel free to click daily to make a difference. Please send an email to your friends telling them about HungerFighters.com. 9. Do you sell your membership lists? Hunger Fighters guarantees that we do not sell or give out individual information. Please see our privacy statement for further information. 10. Why is the predominant emphasis on fighting hunger in America rather than the world? At the moment, our research gives America's Second Harvest great ratings, and it tends to be America-focused. But, our emphasis is broader than just food-we focus on hunger of the whole person in earth-friendly ways. Using triple bottom line approaches are necessary worldwide, not just in the United States. That's why we promote global earth-friendly operations. 11. Why is your direct donation support only focused on America's Second Harvest when there are hundreds of other worthy charities? America's Second Harvest,
www.secondharvest.org, is the largest domestic hunger relief
organization in the United States. Its goal is to cure hunger. This is
consistent with Hunger Fighters' strategy to work synergistically with existing
resources. With a network of over 200 food banks and food rescue programs
across America, America's Second Harvest has the technology, systems,
procedures, experience, and relationships with grocers to be able to have a
meaningful impact on the food industry and hunger. Since it already works with
the grocery industry, we want to encourage further work with the emerging
egrocer industry. We believe that focusing our hunger fighting resources helps
us leverage results. The U.S. hunger facts are staggering. 12. I know some excellent resources, how do I let your members know about them?" Send the information to us at contact@HungerFighters.com. Include your email address. We will ask if it is okay to say "recommended by ____". 13. What if I forget my password? Click on Sign In/Modify Profile. 14. How can I sign up for a daily email reminder? If you are a member, click on Modify Profile. If you want to become a member and sign up for a reminder, click Become a Member. If you just want the reminder for now, click Email Reminder. 15. Why is Hunger Fighters a dot-com rather than a dot-org? Hunger Fighters believes that triple bottom line should be a concern to all organizations. The for-profits may be a bit harder to convince that you can make a profit and be a self-sustaining, growing, value-adding player with a social enterprise component. As a model, we realize there may be a higher risk, but there is also a potential for greater impact. 16. I know of an organization that is making a real impact on solving the hunger problem, how do I let you know? Nominate them as a model organization. Please give us a few words on why you are nominating them. If you have an email address and/or a Web site address for the organization, that also would be helpful. 17. Can I donate directly to a charity of my choice? Yes, but go to Charities in MO Center to find your choice if it is other than America's Second Harvest or one of the organizations Hunger Fighters is featuring. 18. How do you decide which resources or businesses to include in your MO section? Our members let us know what they recommend. Our volunteers, advisors, associates, and members keep us current. We are always looking for everyone from the unsung hero to a highly visible Starbucks. We count on our members to let us know: nomination@hungerfighters.com. 19. How can my business be a sponsor or advertiser or affiliate? There are several ways. Sponsor opportunities are available on the Home Page, including opportunities to donate product to America's Second Harvest for each person who registers on the site. In addition, to provide a value-added egrocer locator or hunger button on your site, go to the Opportunities section. 20. I thought the egrocer industry died, so why the egrocer locator? British-based Telso has joined Safeway to provide a brick-and-mortar-based egrocer model. Ahold, from the Netherlands, buying out Peapod, is working with existing grocers. Albertsons is also busily picking up the slack in the Seattle area from the demise of Webvan and HomeGrocer. Albertsons' model is a bricks-and-mortar model also using existing grocery stores … its own. These are exciting times in the growth of the egrocer industry. Now is the right time to be a part of it. 21. What kind of help can you give to businesses that want to move toward a more sustainable triple bottom line model? First, check out the Model Organizations in the MO Center. Or email us with your inquiry. We have qualified professional consultants on our virtual team. We also encourage you to review the other resources in the MO Center. 22. How is Hunger Fighters financed? What is the economic model? One hundred percent of direct donations go directly to linked organizations. Currently this is a model financed by the founder and from generous donations of time and talent from volunteers in the form of the team, associates, and advisory board. The economic model calls for angel and sponsor support (for sponsor information, email sponsor@hungerfighters.com). An egrocer locator and a Hunger Fighters button are available for sites to provide value-added information to their visitors. Sponsorships are also available. Sponsors will donate a can of food or a cup for registrations on the site. Advertising space is available in daily email reminders sent to requestors. Prime space is available as individuals use the egrocer locator. A percentage of the sales from our selected service providers will go to Hunger Fighters to support the operation of the site and the building of a highly efficient, earth-friendly organization. 23. When do you think you will start selling your own merchandise? There are some items now which can be secured from sources listed in the Mall. In the next stage of Hunger Fighters, we plan to sell our own products. At the moment, our intent is to help you find energy efficient earth-friendly products. Books are available in the Hunger Fighters' Bookstore. 24. When will Hungerfighters.com have its own special membership/friend donation opportunities? This should be in place by late 2004 or early 2005. If you are interested in hearing more about it, please inquire info@hungerfighters.com. In addition we are seeking sponsors who will match cups Hunger Fighters members donate through the two partner sites. sponsor@hungerfighters.com if you are interested in being a sponsor or would like to recommend one you think would be a good prospect. When an individual reaches one hundred, five hundred and a thousand cups special bonus additional cups of food would be donated by Hunger Fighters sponsors. The Hunger Fighters organic growth model is in the stage now of working in a mutually beneficial way with the StopTheHunger.com site and TheHungerSite.com by enabling our members to contribute free food with their clicks to those sites. In the future we will have our own sponsors to be able to increase the value of the time spent at the one-stop Hunger Fighters Donation Center. 25. How is the Running Total Calculated? The running total of clicks quite closely reflects the actual number of cups of food that the Hunger Fighters and Daily thoughts visitors, members, and sponsors have donated or have caused to be donated to Americas Second Harvest. The running total of clicks increases daily from Hunger Fighters’ activity at a rate to be determined by the number of sponsors. From Sept 1, 2004, the rate will be one cup per click as we begin Sponsor solicitation. The intent is to make every click worth a cup of food or more as it has been from Jan 1, 2001 to Sept 1, 2004. Stay tuned for update on total numbers of cups donated so far and how you can help increase that…. |
